Portfolio of Works

My faith is the most important element of my life.  God has blessed me in so many ways in this life, and one of those ways was in my joy of painting.  Painting has been a healing and creative outlet for me for decades.  Recently, though, I felt compelled to share my love for Christ and Scripture by creating faith based paintings that will hopefully resonate with you.

Unlike portraits, I love painting people in their surroundings, living life and doing what their daily life brings their way. I try to capture that moment in my figurative paintings.

I love sea and sailing scenes. They are so tranquil. I find myself daydreaming when I look into a painting of a seascape or sailing scene. There are times I can feel the warmth of the sun coming right off the painting. I hope you enjoy my paintings of the sea and the few sailing scenes I have done.

I enjoy painting Architecture although it isn't all that I paint, I enjoy the way it makes me feel, the porch on a home with a rocker, a barn alone in a field, a historic place like the Naval Academy Chapel.  They can evoke a feeling of pride or comfort, and that is why I enjoy painting them.

The heartbeat of small town, U.S.A. are the Main streets that bring people together.  I am starting a series of paintings that represent Main Street.  The first one I did, was "Hope Road" many years ago.  So, keep an eye out for new paintings in this Gallery.

Having grown up in the country, I love the feeling of being surrounded by rolling acres, cattle, horses, fresh air, lakes, tall trees, hay bails, homegrown vegetable stands, and peace and quiet.

City Life is great for capturing the hustle and bustle of daily life. I try to capture this in my paintings of city life. Take a stroll around!

My favorite time of year.  The colors of the season are so beautiful.  These paintings were a joy to create for celebrating the season, the reason, family, memories, decorating, and music.  A beautiful time to be grateful and reflect on blessings and the things that cost nothing but are priceless.

Pet portraits make wonderful gifts for the holidays!!  They are currently being offered for $400 for an 8x10! $450 for a 9x12!  Please contact the Artist HERE for inquiries.

"I love painting animals and beloved pets! Capturing the moment and the expression that are so familiar makes it all worthwhile." - Susan Vaughn.

Pet Portraits are a wonderful way to preserve the memories you have shared with a special fur family member.  They also make wonderful gifts for someone you love.  Pet Portraits are original pastel and are archival mounted and matted, ready for framing.

When Spring begins to show its colors and warmth, we all venture outside more and open the windows in our home for the fresh air to come inside.  I love the newness of Spring and how the birds build their nests and sing their songs with gusto.  In my North Carolina yard, we have thousands of birds and so many different species that I have 2 books on the different birds in this area.  While we sit at our kitchen table, we look out onto our deck where I have about 7 various bird feeders.  The birds come in droves.  I decided to start a series of paintings based on the beautiful birds I see here in North Carolina, and also the beautiful flowers in bloom.  It's a special time of year, and hopefully my paintings will bring you a breath of fresh air as well.

There can be a moment where a still life can seem as though it has a life of its own. I try to capture the small nuances in my still life paintings.

I receive regular requests for commissions.  If you have an excellent high definition photograph, showing excellent exposure and light and shadow, I will be happy to look it over and quote you a price for your fine oil painting.  Size and content are considerations in accepting a commission.  Below you will find some paintings that I have created on commission.  Thank you for stopping by! - Susan
